Peace Monuments of
Community of Christ

The Community of Christ is a US-based international Christian church established in April 1830. Its mission is "to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love, and peace." From 1872 to 2001, the Community of Christ was known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS).

1926-1958 - Community of Christ Auditorium building, 100 West Walnut, Independence, Missouri (USA). Groundbreaking took place in 1926, but the building was not completed until 1958. US President Harry Truman came here to proclaim the creation of the United Nations immediately after signing the United Nations Charter in San Francisco on June 26, 1945. The Community of Christ International Peace Award (bestowed annually since 1993 except 1996) is presented here.

April 17, 1994 - Temple of Peace (Independence Temple), Community of Christ, World Plaza, Independence, Missouri (USA). "A house of worship & education 'dedicated to the pursuit of peace.' Dominates the skyline of Independence & has become the focal point of the headquarters of the Community of Christ." Every day at 1:30 pm, a Prayer for Peace is held in the temple.

April 17, 1994 - Peace Door, Independence Temple, Community of Christ, World Plaza, Independence, Missouri (USA). In 1874, the Community of Christ adopted as its official seal a lion and lamb led by a child with the words "Peace" underneath.

February 23, 2003 - Children's Peace Center, Acworth, Georgia (USA). Mobile museum operating from the home of Andria D. Melham who drives mobile exhibits to local schools pending the establishment of a permanent museum. One of 27 US museums in "Museums for Peace Worldwide" edited by Kazuyo Yamane (2008). Associated with Community of Christ Church (Independence, Missouri).
